Burton & Carter Architects were working on a major renovation for Soho Albury and approached LouvreLux with regards to a premium outdoor shade solution. As it stood, the indoor space was lacking in light and so the owners were looking to brighten the area with some sort of opening roof system.
In conjunction with Visual Builders, we coordinated the removal of the existing truss roof and sheeting to expose a 5m roof cavity either side of the roof apex. The team then installed two bays of retractable roofs spanning 5 meters and projecting out 4 meters. This type of roof is unique and somewhat a tricky build due to access and height but we got the job done.
In terms of material, Architect and Client opted for a highly translucent PVC membrane (Hiraoka Sundream) for each of the retractable roofs. When closed over, this more translucent material would continue to provide patrons with natural sunlight whilst protecting against adverse weather conditions.
The final result was spectacular. Whilst providing the desired protection, the addition of the translucent retractable roof meant that the whole venue was illuminated from above, making the space both inviting and comfortable for its guests. Indeed, the sleek finish of the arched roof alongside the walls of wooden panelling gives all the vibes of a trendy, rustic loft. All in all, a pleasant place to eat, drink and enjoy the company of friends.
We thank Burton & Carter for getting in touch and hope Soho Albury and its guests enjoy the renovated space.
